An environmental research group designed a new water management policy. Technical expertise was abudantly available to them. However, the group lacked insight into societal opinions about water issues. It lacked especially a view on the long-term influence of popular culture.

Branwen analysed the views related to water by looking at 50 years of movies, TV-series, news coverage,... . The analysis showed how 'collective memory' strongly influenced people's sentiments towards water management. As such, Branwen offered the research group a comprehensive overview of the historical-cultural bottlenecks impacting their proposals.

Branwen helped draft the research group's final policy paper, describing the influence of collective memory. Branwen's section included special attention to popular ideas about water management. Via this paper the group could design a new narrative about its proposed policies, in tune with existing popular views on droughts and floodings.
